Pyrolysis Hellas Receives Permits to Build a Klean Industries Tire Pyrolysis Plant to Produce Recovered Carbon Black (rCB)

Clean industries

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Feb. 21. 10, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Klean Industries Inc (“Klean”) is pleased to announce that its partner Pyrolysis Hellas SA (“PHS”) has completed Phase II of the Detailed Feasibility Study (“DFS”) for design and build a tire pyrolysis plant in Greece. It is now entering final stage III and permits have been granted by the Greek authorities. This is an important milestone for the PHS project and, to our knowledge, is the first tire carbon pyrolysis and beneficiation project in Greece to receive full permits.

Each year, more than 1.5 billion tires are sold worldwide, representing more than 26 million tonnes, and as many tires each year also fall into the category of end-of-life (“ELT”) tires offering significant and partially untapped potential. for the recovery of resources and materials. Today, most traditional PUNR processing processes are non-circular and result in no production of raw materials that can be reused in the tire manufacturing industry. Without these ELT solutions in the EU, more than half of EU end-of-life and used tires are landfilled or exported as tire-derived fuels (“TDFs”) for use in furnaces as industrial fuel. The PHS project intends to reverse these trends and create a dynamic addition to the progress being made in the tire recycling industry.

The PHS project is co-owned by Karabas European Hellenic Recycling SA (“KEHR”), which was founded in 1999, which in 2021 entered into a JV partnership with Corinth Capital, a private equity fund in Cyprus and created a joint venture called Pyrolysis Hellas SA (“PHS”). Currently, KEHR collects and recycles all types of used vehicle tires and recycles them through traditional methods by shredding the tires into rubber granules, rubber powder and shock-absorbing liner tiles.

PHS has partnered with Klean Industries to build a modern tire recycling facility that includes a state-of-the-art waste tire pyrolysis plant to recycle 20,000 TPA of waste tires into valuable chemicals. The PHS environmental impact study for the construction and operation of a waste tire pyrolysis plant has been approved and the corresponding environmental license has been granted by the competent Greek authorities.

PHS proposes to build and operate the waste tire pyrolysis plant in Moulkia, a seaside town near Skala, Greece. It is located on an existing industrial site owned by KEHR. This site is planned to be expanded with a new processing building to house the new tire pyrolysis plant used to create recovered carbon black (“rCB”) and recovered fuel oil (“rFO”) through a process of Proprietary charring owned by Klean Industries which operates on a commercial scale. Recovering valuable resources from used tires will positively contribute to the Greek government’s efforts to reduce and reuse waste, including promoting independent sustainable energy efforts. The PHS project will produce its raw materials according to ASTM D36 standard and the latest standards will be certified according to ISO 9001 and 14001.

About Klean

Klean Industries comprises an international team of award-winning experts with decades of experience designing, manufacturing and deploying tire pyrolysis projects around the world. Klean has developed specialized technologies, intellectual property and know-how using best-of-breed technologies to produce high quality recovered carbon black (“rCB”) and recovered fuel oil (“rFO”) products from the tire pyrolysis to a defined set of specifications. As active voting members of the ASTM Committees for D24 Carbon Black and D36 Recovered Carbon Black Derived from Tire Pyrolysis. The KleanTeam contributes to the growing demand for tire pyrolysis products by providing market feedback that helps set the necessary standards for new formulations and guidelines used to characterize materials science for carbon black materials used in the rubber and tire manufacturing industries. Klean has a number of pyrolysis projects in North America and Europe which are under development and which are dedicated to the production of high quality ASTM D36 reclaimed carbon black used in the manufacture of new tires and a reclaimed oil of high quality which contains 35 to 40% of biomass which is used for the production of new virgin carbon blacks. By converting used tires into home energy, sustainable green products and new jobs in clean technology, the company is helping to create the circular economy we all want and need.
